Learning Without Borders (LWB) Program Homepage

Overview

The University of Victoria’s strategic plan places a clear emphasis on the goal of internationalizing the curriculum as we prepare students for their role as global citizens.

As part of many efforts to foster UVic’s global culture, the Office of the Vice-President Academic and Provost, in collaboration with the Office of International Affairs (OIA) and the Learning and Teaching Centre (LTC), created the Learning Without Borders (LWB) Project.

The LWB Project supports academic units in their efforts to include international elements as part of their undergraduate curricular design and implementation.

Overall, our goal is to create a growing community of multi-disciplinary faculty members involved in the internationalization of the curriculum at UVic who are willing to share their experiences and inspire others through their leadership in this area. We plan to build on the successes and lessons learned as a result of these curriculum redesign projects to inform the broader scholarly community at UVic, and to better support the development of global mindsets and the cross-cultural understanding of our students.

Learning Without Borders Grants

The Learning Without Borders Fund for curriculum development annually offers 10 competitive, peer-reviewed grants for up to $7,500 each to redesign undergraduate core courses and/or significant components of undergraduate programs to have an integrated international focus. A broad range of approaches will be considered.

Every academic unit is encouraged to consider putting forward a proposal and to think about how this vital goal for our students can be most effectively met in your own academic context. The deadline for applications is October 1, 2012. For more information and application forms, please see the Learning and Teaching Centre’s grants' webpage at http://www.ltc.uvic.ca/scholarships/ltgrants.php
