6:30 PM ~ 8:00 PM, HHB 128
What do you do as a TA when you suspect a student of plagiarizing or you feel one of your students has crossed a line? Whom do you go to for support? Dilemmas and challenges are certainly a part of a TA's life but where can you find the support you need to deal with these issues? This workshop will include a panel of representatives in various positions across the campus (Graduate Student, TA, Instructor, Administrator) who will help you find solutions for relevant issues, increase your understanding, and aid you in your journey of teaching students.

Teaching Tips Series #2 ~ Strategies for the First Class
Wednesday, October 17, 2007
2:00 PM ~ 4:00 PM, HHB 128
With Professor Marty Wall, Department of Psychology
As an instructor you might be tempted to dismiss the special significance of your first meeting with your class and not take advantage of the opportunity that it provides to set a positive and engaging beginning to your course. First impressions are important and, particularly in a large class, difficult to change. We will discuss the “dos-and-don’ts” for the first class and consider the impact of different strategies. Come prepared to compare notes on how best to establish an optimal start to a course.

Course (Re)Design for Internationalization Workshop (CRIW) ~ A Preparatory Introduction to the December 2007 Workshop
Friday, October 19, 2007
12:00 PM ~ 1:30 PM, HHB 128 [Lunch included]
With Sabine Schuerholz-Lehr, Office of International Affairs and Dr. Catherine Caws, Department of French
Have you ever wondered how to add an international dimension to your course so that students who cannot study abroad can still receive an international experience?  Have you ever struggled with the presence of different cultural backgrounds and realities in your classroom?
A December 2007 three-day workshop, designed for those who have already participated in the week-long Course (Re)Design Workshop (CRW), will revisit the course (re)design process through an internationalization “lens”. As a preparation for this December workshop, this October 19 introduction will serve to demystify the concept of "internationalizing the curriculum” and provide an opportunity to find out more about the December workshop.
